Patrick (Paddy) G. Guy
Patrick (Paddy) G. Guy Paddy was born and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father, Robert DuVal Guy was a Justice on the Manitoba Court of Appeal and his grandfather, Robert Dunbar Guy, was a lawyer in Winnipeg for many years.

Paddy received his LLB from the University of Manitoba in 1977. He articled with Pitblado Hoskin and continued to practice law with that firm until 1981.

In 1982 Paddy commenced his LLM studies at the University of British Columbia, however before completing those studies he qualified for the BC Bar and joined the firm of Lawson Lundell in their insolvency department.

During his years with Lawson Lundell, Paddy’s practice included insolvencies, foreclosures, bankruptcy matters, and reorganizations under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act. He also presented materials to the Continuing Legal Education Society and at one time wrote the foreclosure and builders lien materials for PLTC.

Paddy had been an associate and then a partner at Lawson Lundell for five years when he decided in 1992 to leave Vancouver and move with his young family to Victoria.

Since arriving in Victoria, Paddy continued to work with Continuing Legal Education Society, presenting courses in construction, foreclosure, insolvency and, recently, class action procedures. Paddy is also a guest lecturer at Uvic Law School, speaking on his experiences in complex litigation.

He has a thriving law practice in the field of commercial litigation including construction law; contractual, partnership and shareholder disputes; builders liens; foreclosures; franchise disputes; and disputes over intellectual property. In recent years Paddy has expanded his practice to include class action proceedings in British Columbia. He has been, or is, involved with litigation concerning the failure of the Radiant Heat Ceiling Panel home heating systems Jericho Hill School, and of course, leaky condos. Paddy has also been involved in multi-party litigation concerning the securities industry.

Since moving to Victoria, Paddy, his wife Michele, and their three children: Paige, Madeline and Liam, have come to enjoy the gentler pace of this wonderful City. Paddy and his athletic family are avid sailors, skiers, runners and cyclists.
